It comes from the Gloucestershire area where it is used for eating and cider. When ripe it is juicey that is sweet and well flavoured.
It is described in the The Project Gutenberg EBook of British Pomology, by Robert Hogg as "A large culinary apple of second-rate quality; it is roundish, dark red, and in use from September to November".
