Raised in about 1700 by Dr Ashmead, Gloucester. Fruits are firm, juicy flesh with a rich aromatic flavour. Some people say the taste is like sweet pear drops. The outside appearance is a brown russet, with red blush on the sunny side.
Although the apple has always been for eating. In the past few years it has been used for cider making (even thou there are no tannins).
